I like that thought.  Focus on emphasizing the great people in your life. 

Yesterday Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and my boss all died.  No really….I’m not being funny with that last one.  I was volunteering all day at Qwest Event Center, preparing for the marathon.  I had to rush home to shower and change for the “Debuts and Discoveries” event at the Seattle Aquarium.  I got a call from an old co-worker (well technically the bitch that got my job…thank goodness I love her!).  I didn’t have time to answer so I let it go to voicemail and figured I would listen while I was on my way to the aquarium.  I assumed either she was laid off or my company finally got a new contract and I’m coming back.  Hooray!!  Imagine my surprise as I stood waiting for the elevator and heard that my old boss passed away after battling cancer for over a year. 

I was overcome with emotion.  He was 52 years old. 

I have used this quote in the blog because I really do believe in it:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did”

….but what if you didn’t even make it to tomorrow.  I get a lot of cute emails about using the good china and remembering to appreciate your friends and family.  Sometimes I think of posting them here but for the most part I save this blog for crazy naked drunk sex stories. 

Today is an exception.

I looked through some of the messages I’ve received; so many good ones.  Say ‘please’, ‘thank you’, and ’sorry’.  Remember today is a gift.  Don’t sweat the small stuff.  Although I am not a big fan of country music I really like the song “Live Like You Were Dying”.  I think the lyrics are great, but then I remembered an old favorite….great advice…like ‘do one thing everyday that scares you’.  ‘Sing’,  and ‘don’t be reckless with out people’s hearts’.  Take a moment, it’s probably been awhile since you’ve heard this one but it’s great. 

 And for the record, I’m not exactly sure that Northern California makes you soft ; )
